Powell is scheduled to race for the first time since the injury at the June 20-22 Trinidad national championships. The real test will come when Powell faces up to Usain Bolt on June 27-29 at the Jamaican trials. Powell says the meeting should not be considered a showdown but an opportunity to make the Jamaican team for Beijing.

Powell said he hoped to regain the 100m record from Bolt this year.

“It takes away some of the pressure,” Powell said, then added with a laugh: “People can stop bothering me now. I can be a lot more focused on what I want to achieve.
